Download and add your Vanguard Personal Investor history

    1. In Vanguard Online, select your account, then Transactions › Investment transactions.
    2. Set the dates from your first investment to today, choose Download current view, then Spreadsheet. Add the file as it is, without renaming columns.
    3. Open the Australian calculator with your broker selected and add the original CSV or Excel files. Review the income year you need and download the workings.

    Choose the supported workbook

FiscalFox reads the original transaction workbook. A reinvested distribution is a new purchase parcel, so its units, cost and acquisition date must remain separate from the original investment.

Complete the Vanguard Personal Investor records

The Personal Investor annual statement can cover several holdings. Enter each fund’s own components and cost base amounts from its section, rather than assigning an account total to one ETF. Avoid adding the statement’s FIFO sale gain on top of a sale already recalculated from trade history.

    Calculate the Australian income year

Include the acquisitions behind the year’s sales, even when you bought years earlier. FiscalFox keeps parcels and their dates, converts covered foreign trades to AUD and applies capital losses before any current-rule discount.

Review the affected year’s results and download the item 18 workings. The 50% discount applies to qualifying resident-individual gains under the rules through 30 June 2027; holdings that cross the reform date also need their transition valuation.

    Questions and answers

Which Vanguard Personal Investor file does FiscalFox need?

Download the Investment transactions spreadsheet from Vanguard Online. Keep the annual tax statement as well: it supplies income and fund adjustments, not just the acquisitions and sales.

Is the Vanguard Personal Investor profit figure my Australian taxable gain?

Use it as a cross-check. Australian CGT depends on the parcels, original costs, AUD conversions, capital losses and applicable discount; the calculator rebuilds those figures from the records.

Do I need earlier purchases as well as this year’s sales?

Yes, whenever a sale uses shares bought before the income year. Include the original acquisitions and any relevant transfers, reinvestments or fund cost base adjustments.
