A single broker's tax report is fine until your shares have moved, been reinvested or sit in more than one account. These are the cases FiscalFox is designed to finish.
Every sale matched to its parcels
Each purchase is its own parcel. FiscalFox works out which parcels every sale used, applies the 50% discount to the ones held 12 months or more, and shows the cost, proceeds and gain for each.
| Parcel bought | Cost A$ | Proceeds A$ | Gain A$ |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 Jan 2022Over 12 months: 50% discount | 2,000 | 5,000 | 3,000 |
| 15 Jan 2025Under 12 months: no discount | 1,900 | 2,500 | 600 |
Every broker and account in one calculation
Upload exports from all your brokers together. Each parcel stays in the account it was bought in. When a sale has no parcel in its account, usually because shares moved between brokers, FiscalFox asks instead of guessing.
CommSec
100 bought 10 Jan 2022
150 sold on 1 Sep 2025
Stake
100 bought 1 May 2021
50 of the units sold aren't held at CommSec, but are held at Stake.
Were they transferred between brokers? Add the transfer, or choose the parcels this sale used.
ETF statements applied year by year
AMIT funds report cost base amounts on their AMMA statements. Allocate them to each parcel’s sold and retained units, including the sale year; FiscalFox identifies the missing amounts.

The 12-month discount, parcel by parcel
Checked for every parcel, including each dividend reinvestment, counting neither the day you bought nor the day you sold.
Losses in the order the ATO sets
This year's losses, then earlier years' net capital losses, come off your gains before the 50% discount, starting with gains that don't qualify for it.
AUD at Reserve Bank rates
Shares bought in US dollars are converted on the purchase date and the sale date separately, with each rate and its source recorded.
Every holding gets a 30 June 2027 value
From 1 July 2027 the 50% discount ends for gains made after that date. Shares you hold through 30 June 2027 are treated as sold at their market value just before 1 July and bought straight back. The gain on that sale waits until you really sell, and the value becomes each holding's new cost base, so it needs recording for every parcel.
FiscalFox records the value for every parcel you hold, and shows what you hold today with each parcel's cost base so you can fill gaps before the date. Sales up to 30 June 2027 use the current rules; from 2027-28 it applies the new ones, including indexation and the 30% minimum tax. Treasury Laws Amendment (Tax Reform No. 1) Act 2026

Short answers, each linked to the ATO guidance it comes from. Sources checked 14 October 2026.
- When do I get the 50% discount?
- When you held the shares for at least 12 months, not counting the day you bought or sold them. Bought on 2 February 2025, the discount applies to a sale on or after 3 February 2026. ATO source
- Which shares did I sell?
- Each purchase is a separate parcel. If your records show which parcel you sold, use it. Otherwise the ATO accepts your own selection, or first in, first out. Average cost is only allowed in narrow cases. ATO source
- When are losses applied?
- Capital losses this year, then net capital losses from earlier years, are taken off your gains before the 50% discount. ATO source
- How do ETF statements change my cost base?
- A fund's AMMA statement gives a cost base net amount each year. An increase raises your cost base and a decrease lowers it; a decrease beyond your cost base is a capital gain. ATO source
