AJ Bell Capital Gains Tax Calculator

Import AJ Bell Dealing account transaction history for UK share matching and SA108 supporting reports.

Updated 14 July 20265 min read

FiscalFox imports the original AJ Bell Transaction History CSV from a taxable Dealing account. It converts purchases and sales into UK CGT transactions, imports supported dividend rows, preserves fund equalisation and accumulation-distribution evidence, and applies HMRC's same-day, 30-day, and Section 104 matching rules.

How to generate the AJ Bell transaction history report

Use AJ Bell's row-level transaction history rather than a valuation or summary document. Menu names can vary between the website and app, so use the web account view when possible and look for Transaction History within the selected Dealing account.

    1. Open the taxable account: Sign in to AJ Bell and select the Dealing account that contains the taxable investments.
    2. Open Transaction History: Use the account transaction-history view rather than Documents, portfolio valuation, quarterly statement, costs statement, or Annual tax summary.
    3. Choose the complete period: Include the earliest relevant acquisition through the end of the tax year, especially where older purchases remain in the Section 104 pool.
    4. Download CSV: Download the original row-level Transaction History CSV and leave its headers unchanged.
    5. Upload to FiscalFox: Choose AJ Bell and upload the CSV. Review any fund equalisation or accumulation adjustments before relying on the final report.

Transaction History and Annual tax summary serve different purposes

AJ Bell confirms that Dealing account customers receive an Annual tax summary under Documents. FiscalFox does not use that summary as a substitute for the dated transaction history needed to reconstruct UK share pools and individual disposals.

See AJ Bell's official explanation of its Annual tax summary. Keep that document with your records, but upload the original Transaction History CSV to FiscalFox.

    AJ Bell file format

The supported transaction-history layout normally includes:

    • Date and Reference for the broker event
    • Transaction for Purchase, Sale, Dividend, Equalisation, or another activity label
    • Description and, where provided, ISIN for security identity
    • Quantity, Price, and Amount (GBP) for the transaction economics

Upload the original CSV unchanged. A cash statement or portfolio summary may contain amounts and investment names but does not provide the same evidence as the supported transaction-history header.

How AJ Bell rows are processed

    AJ Bell rowFiscalFox treatment
Purchase / SaleAcquisition or disposal using the broker's GBP total and dealing evidence
DividendDividend income record where the file supplies a usable GBP amount
EqualisationPreserved as a potential return-of-capital adjustment linked to fund acquisitions
Accumulation distributionIncome plus a potential CGT cost adjustment, retained for review and audit evidence

    Common AJ Bell upload issues

Only the tax-year transactions were exported

A sale can depend on acquisitions made years earlier. Export enough history to establish the complete holding, or add an opening position with units and pooled cost before calculating.

A summary or cash statement was uploaded

Re-export the Transaction History CSV. FiscalFox checks for the supported AJ Bell transaction fields instead of guessing trade direction from a general cash ledger.

    Fund adjustments require review

Equalisation and accumulation distributions can alter income and allowable cost. FiscalFox retains these rows and links deterministic adjustments where the evidence is sufficient, but the report should not be finalised while a related review item remains unresolved.

    Calculate and download your report

    1. Open the FiscalFox calculator and choose AJ Bell.
    2. Upload the original Transaction History CSV and review imported transactions and fund adjustments.
    3. Select the relevant UK tax year and resolve any missing opening position or security identity.
    4. Open Reports to generate the SA108 supporting schedule and detailed disposal workings.
