Robinhood is used by UK taxpayers who have US share and option activity from a US brokerage account. If those holdings sit outside an ISA or pension wrapper, disposals may need to be included in a UK capital gains calculation. FiscalFox reads Robinhood account activity CSV files, imports supported stock trades and dividends, converts amounts to sterling where GBP or FX columns are available, and applies HMRC share matching rules.
How to export Robinhood account activity
Use the account activity CSV, not a portfolio summary or tax-summary-only document. The file should cover the full period needed to explain any shares sold in the tax year.
- Sign in to Robinhood on desktop or in the app.
- Open account activity, statements, reports, or documents.
- Choose the activity history export for the full period that includes your taxable trades.
- Export or download the file as CSV.
- Upload it in FiscalFox using the Robinhood option.
Use activity rows, not only a tax summary
FiscalFox needs individual dated rows with instrument, transaction code, quantity, price and amount. A year-end tax statement or portfolio valuation does not contain enough detail to rebuild UK Section 104 pools.
File format details
FiscalFox expects Robinhood activity rows with columns such as:
- Activity Date -- the transaction date
- Instrument and Description -- the stock or option identifier
- Trans Code -- for example Buy, Sell, BTO, STC or OEXP
- Quantity, Price and Amount -- the trade economics
- Amount GBP, Dollar net or Spot FX rate where available for sterling conversion
Supported Robinhood rows
| Robinhood Row | How FiscalFox Uses It |
|---|---|
| Buy | Adds shares to the relevant Section 104 pool in GBP |
| Sell | Creates a disposal matched under UK share matching rules |
| Dividend and withholding rows | Imported into dividend records for review alongside CGT calculations |
| BTO, STC, OEXP | Imported as supported long option acquisition, disposal or expiry rows |
Common Robinhood upload issues
Missing GBP conversion data
UK CGT figures must be calculated in sterling. If your Robinhood file includes Amount GBP or Spot FX rate columns, FiscalFox uses those values. If the export only contains USD amounts, review the output carefully and consider adding a file with explicit GBP conversion data.
Written options and assignments
Long option rows such as BTO, STC and OEXP are supported. Written option openings, buy-backs, exercises and assignments can affect how premiums are folded into underlying share acquisitions or disposals, so FiscalFox flags unsupported option-only files for review.
Incomplete history
A tax-year-only export may omit older purchases that form the Section 104 pool for a later sale. Export as much history as possible for securities sold in the tax year.
Once the CSV is ready, open the FiscalFox calculator, choose Robinhood, and upload the file.
