To calculate UK capital gains on DEGIRO shares, export your detailed Transactions history as CSV or Excel and upload it to FiscalFox. Include earlier purchases and relevant transactions from your other brokers. FiscalFox applies same-day matching, the 30-day rule and Section 104 pooling, then shows the calculation before you buy a report pack.
How to export DEGIRO transactions for UK CGT
Start with the Transactions view in Inbox. The initial date range may show only one month, so widen it before exporting. A sale during this tax year can depend on an acquisition made several years earlier; exporting only the sale year can leave the original cost out of your calculation.
- Open Transactions: Sign in to DEGIRO in a web browser, open Inbox and select Transactions.
- Include your earlier purchases: Set the start date before the first purchase of any investment you sold. Include relevant history from other brokers if you moved shares into DEGIRO.
- Include purchases after year end: For a completed UK tax year, include transactions through 5 May after it ends so purchases within 30 days of a year-end sale can be matched.
- Export CSV or Excel: Click Export and download the original CSV or Excel file. Keep the column headings, currencies and signed quantities unchanged.
- Upload to FiscalFox: Choose DEGIRO in the calculator and upload your files. Recognised GBP Transactions layouts import locally; unfamiliar layouts can use AI through the existing upload flow.
DEGIRO’s report guidance explains where to find Transactions, Account statement and annual documents, and how to change the date range. Its Transactions view lists purchases and sales; its Account statement contains broader activity, including dividends. Choose CSV or Excel for the transaction import.
Which DEGIRO file should I upload?
Upload the original Transactions export. A recognised layout includes Date, Time, Product, ISIN, Quantity, Price, Local value, Value GBP, Exchange rate and Total GBP. Some exports put the currency in an adjacent column without a heading. Keep those columns: they establish whether an amount is pounds, euros or another currency.
A portfolio snapshot shows what you held on a date, but does not establish all acquisition costs. An annual PDF or costs summary is useful for checking your records, but the detailed transaction rows are what the import needs. Keep the source documents alongside your downloaded report.
How DEGIRO prices, GBP amounts and fees are read
DEGIRO can show an investment’s price in its trading currency alongside the account value in GBP. Those are different amounts. For a recognised GBP export, FiscalFox uses the explicit GBP Value as gross purchase cost or disposal proceeds and records the difference from Total as a separate fee. A purchase normally has positive quantity and negative cash; a sale has negative quantity and positive gross cash.
For example, a purchase with Value GBP of −£1,000 and Total GBP of −£1,003 produces a £1,000 acquisition and £3 fee. A sale with Value GBP of £1,200 and Total GBP of £1,197 produces £1,200 gross proceeds and £3 disposal fee. The fee is kept separate so the calculation does not count it twice. These are illustrative figures.
An export with another account currency or a changed layout follows the AI fallback. FiscalFox checks the resulting rows rather than assuming every value is GBP. For the tax calculation, acquisition costs and disposal proceeds must be considered in sterling at their respective dates; see HMRC’s foreign-currency guidance and our exchange-rate guide.
Why your DEGIRO profit figure can differ from UK taxable gains
A portfolio’s performance figure answers a different question from a UK share disposal calculation. HMRC identifies shares sold against acquisitions in a prescribed order. Purchases of the same share on the sale date come first, purchases in the following 30 days come next, and the remaining shares generally come from the Section 104 holding at its pooled average cost.
These rules can link a DEGIRO sale to a purchase in another taxable brokerage account. Upload the relevant history together so FiscalFox can match the same investment across brokers. The order is explained in HMRC’s share-identification guidance. The final report shows the matching and cost workings alongside the SA108 supporting figures.
Dividends, transfers and share conversions
This Transactions import covers purchases and sales. Dividends and withholding tax require the separate Account statement or other income records; the built-in Transactions reader does not supply those figures. For overseas funds, excess reportable income can also affect income and acquisition costs independently of cash received.
Shares moved between brokers need their original cost history. A split or conversion can also appear as opposing rows with different quantities. Those rows need their actual corporate-action treatment before they can contribute to taxable purchases or sales. FiscalFox validates imported rows and retains affected evidence for review rather than inventing costs or treating a share reorganisation as an ordinary disposal.
Calculate first, then download your report
Open the DEGIRO calculator, upload your original files and review the resulting gains and losses. Calculations are free to preview. When your chosen tax year is ready, a report pack provides the disposal workings, share-matching calculations and SA108 supporting schedule. Use the SA108 guide to understand how those figures fit into Self Assessment.
Frequently asked questions
Does FiscalFox support DEGIRO CSV and Excel files?
Yes. Choose DEGIRO and upload the original Transactions CSV or Excel export. Recognised English-language GBP layouts are processed locally. Unfamiliar layouts use an AI fallback through the existing upload flow, with validation and a preview before import.
Can I use the DEGIRO annual tax report for UK capital gains tax?
Keep the annual report as supporting evidence, but upload the detailed Transactions export for the calculation. A UK share calculation needs individual acquisition and disposal records, earlier costs and purchases within 30 days after a sale.
Does the Transactions export include DEGIRO dividends?
The Transactions export covers purchases and sales. DEGIRO lists dividends and other account activity in the separate Account statement. The built-in Transactions reader does not import that income, so a trade-only upload does not establish complete dividend or withholding figures.
How does FiscalFox handle foreign currencies and dealing fees?
The recognised GBP Transactions reader uses the explicit Value GBP amount as gross consideration and the difference from Total GBP as the separate fee. It does not treat a foreign-currency Price as a sterling price. Other layouts require validated AI interpretation and explicit sterling conversion evidence.
