    J.P. Morgan Personal Investing

Calculate UK capital gains from J.P. Morgan Personal Investing, formerly Nutmeg, by uploading the Investment Activity CSV to FiscalFox. Only your General Investment Account is taxed; ISA and pension rows in the same file are left out for you. Preview each tax year free before buying a report pack.

How to download your investment activity

    1. Open your transaction history: Sign in to J.P. Morgan Personal Investing and open the transaction history. You can reach it from the main menu or from any of your pots.
    2. Download your investment activity: Download the investment activity as a CSV file. It is called Investment-Activity followed by the date, and lists every purchase, sale, dividend, interest payment and fee across your pots.
    3. Cover the full history: Include every year since you first invested, so the cost of the units you sold is known. For a completed tax year, include purchases up to 5 May after it ends for the 30-day rule.
    4. Upload it unchanged: Choose J.P. Morgan Personal Investing in FiscalFox and upload the CSV as it is. It is read on your device, and ISA and pension rows are left out for you.
    5. Check the result: Preview your gains, dividends and interest for each tax year free, then compare them with your annual tax pack before you file.

J.P. Morgan’s reports and statements help explains that your investment activity, transfers, contributions and withdrawals are in the transaction history section. If you cannot find a download option there, ask J.P. Morgan for your full investment activity through Messages in your account.

What FiscalFox reads from the file

The Investment Activity CSV has one row per purchase, sale, dividend, interest payment or fee, for every pot and account. FiscalFox uses the Account column to keep only General Investment Account rows. A pot is a goal inside an account, so the same fund held in two General Investment Account pots forms one holding for capital gains tax.

    • Purchase and Sale: the fund code, number of shares, price and total value in pounds. FiscalFox checks that shares multiplied by price equals the total on every row.
    • Dividend and Interest: fund distributions and cash interest, for the income section of your report.
    • Fee: the platform management fee. It is not a cost of buying or selling, so it is left out of the gain calculation.

If any row cannot be read exactly, FiscalFox stops and says so rather than guessing, because an unread ISA row could otherwise be taxed by mistake.

Many small sales and UK share matching

Managed pots are rebalanced and topped up often, so a few years of history can hold thousands of small purchases and sales of the same funds. Each General Investment Account sale is a disposal. HMRC matches it first with purchases on the same day, then with purchases in the following 30 days, and finally with the average cost in the Section 104 pool. See HMRC’s share-identification rules and our guide to the 30-day rule.

The funds are exchange traded funds. If you hold the same fund at another broker, upload that history too so FiscalFox can pool them together.

Income, accumulating funds and your tax pack

Dividend rows are imported as dividends as the export labels them. Distributions from bond funds can be taxed as interest instead, so compare the income split with the Consolidated Tax Certificate in your annual tax pack. Accumulating funds held outside an ISA may also have excess reportable income that adds to your income and your cost.

J.P. Morgan sends the annual tax pack in July or August if you held a General Investment Account during the tax year. Its Capital Gains Tax report is a good cross-check for the gains FiscalFox calculates for this account.

    Frequently asked questions

Does FiscalFox support J.P. Morgan Personal Investing (formerly Nutmeg)?

Yes. Choose J.P. Morgan Personal Investing and upload the Investment Activity CSV from your transaction history. FiscalFox reads the General Investment Account purchases, sales, dividends and interest on your device and leaves out ISA and pension rows, which are free of capital gains tax.

Which J.P. Morgan Personal Investing file should I upload?

The Investment Activity CSV, with Date, Description, Investment, Asset Code, Pot, Account, No. Shares, Share Price (£) and Total Value (£) columns. The pot allocation download is a list of what you hold today, and valuation reports and the annual tax pack are summaries, so none of them list every purchase and sale.

Why are there so many small sales?

Your pots are rebalanced and topped up regularly, so the export has many small purchases and sales of the same funds. Each sale in your General Investment Account is a disposal for capital gains tax. FiscalFox matches them with HMRC rules: same-day purchases first, then purchases in the next 30 days, then the Section 104 pool.

Are platform fees included in the calculation?

No. The Fee rows are the platform management fee, which is not part of the cost of buying or selling a fund, so FiscalFox leaves them out of the gain calculation. The export shows no separate dealing charges on purchases or sales.

Does my annual tax pack replace this?

The tax pack, sent in July or August if you held a General Investment Account, includes a Capital Gains Tax report and a Consolidated Tax Certificate. It is a useful check. FiscalFox also combines this account with your other brokers, which matters if you hold the same fund elsewhere.
