Awaken is FiscalFox’s preferred crypto tax provider. Use it to bring your exchange and wallet activity together, review crypto transactions and prepare your crypto tax reports. FiscalFox readers can get $30 off Fish tier or above through our referral link. For shares and funds, use FiscalFox’s broker import and UK capital gains calculation.

    What is Awaken Tax?

Awaken is crypto tax software for people with activity across exchanges, wallets and decentralised finance (DeFi) services. Its published features include wallet and exchange imports, transaction review, gain and loss summaries, and downloadable tax reports. Awaken lists the UK as a supported country and describes support for local-currency reporting and HMRC supplemental statements. See Awaken’s international reporting overview.

We recommend Awaken for the crypto side of your records because that workflow involves wallets, exchange transfers and on-chain activity. FiscalFox focuses on supported broker records for shares, funds, ETFs and options. Keeping those jobs clear helps you choose the right tool for each file without trying to turn a wallet export into a share transaction list.

How to get the Awaken $30 discount

    1. Open FiscalFox’s Awaken referral link and sign up.
    2. Connect your crypto accounts and review the imported activity.
    3. When you choose Fish tier or above, check that the $30 discount is shown before you pay.

The offer is US$30 off an eligible paid tier. FiscalFox earns a commission on qualifying paid referrals. Choose your plan based on the activity and reports you need.

Getting started with Awaken for UK crypto taxes

    1. Bring together your history. Add the exchanges and wallets you used, including older accounts that contain the original purchases for coins sold later.
    2. Use the UK reporting context. Check your country, GBP figures and the report dates. A UK tax year runs from 6 April to 5 April, so a calendar-year export is a different period.
    3. Review the transactions that affect your figures. Resolve missing purchase costs and check transfers between your own accounts. Awaken’s getting-started guide explains its suggested wallets and high-priority transaction review.
    4. Download and retain the reports. In Awaken’s Taxes tab, select the relevant year and generate the reports you need. Keep the report alongside your original records. See Awaken’s report-download instructions.

A capital gains report and an income report answer different questions. Keep any crypto income figures, such as staking rewards, available separately from your disposal gains. Generating a report is also separate from submitting your Self Assessment return.

What UK records should you keep?

HMRC says a crypto disposal can include selling tokens, exchanging them for another cryptoasset, spending them or giving them away, subject to the applicable exceptions. Moving money back to your bank is not the only event that matters. Read HMRC’s guidance on selling cryptoassets.

Keep the asset type, transaction date, units, purchase or sale details, and value in pounds at the transaction date. Retain exchange downloads and relevant wallet addresses, too. HMRC places responsibility for keeping those records on the taxpayer, even if an exchange later closes or stops making its history available. The source is HMRC’s cryptoasset record-keeping manual.

    Using Awaken alongside FiscalFox

If you invest in both crypto and shares, start with the right source records for each. Use Awaken for your crypto activity and upload your supported broker exports to FiscalFox for your share calculation. Keep the resulting reports for the same tax year together when preparing your return. Your annual CGT allowance applies across your chargeable gains; it is not a separate allowance for each app or asset category.

Import your Awaken report. Choose Awaken in the upload picker, upload the detailed UK capital gains CSV in GBP, then review your figures. FiscalFox checks every disposal row and shows the reported costs, proceeds and gains for review before saving. The import preserves the calculated crypto figures; it does not recalculate wallet trades or import crypto income.

    Already using Koinly?

    Koinly

You can keep using your existing Koinly workflow. FiscalFox supports the Koinly Capital Gains Report CSV in GBP: choose Koinly in the upload picker and follow the download guide. FiscalFox adds those reported crypto gains to the share calculation, with a coverage review where broker crypto activity overlaps. Koinly income reports are not included in that import.

Awaken is our preferred provider, but that preference does not require you to replace a report you already have. Use the SA108 guide to understand how supporting calculations fit into your return.
